I got this because 1. I want to learn to bake and 2. It was on sale, or maybe was even free. My big complaint is that it is not really well organized. There is a lot of information but it is a little tough for me to follow and make sense of as a non-baker. Maybe with more experience it would be a little easier for me to navigate.
I enjoyed all the recipes although I have actually only baked one so far. It was delicious = chocolate of course!
the directions are easy to follow and very thorough. Pan size, ingedients are wll explaned. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to try baking their own cakes which are usually better than a cake mix.
This cake cookbook is excellent. I have marked so many recipes I want to try. In the average book like this I might find a half dozen recipes that I like. Not in this book, it is filled with so many that I want to try that I do not know where to begin. If you like to bake do not miss this book.

The cover alone should tell you some of the best cake recipes are in this one.
And who doesn't love a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I can honestly tell you it is one of my husbands favorites.
And Black Forest Cake with chocolate and cherries yummy.

This book has some 60 cake recipes.
There are 60 cakes included -- along with photos to let you see just how yummy the recipe will be. There were general hints to making great cakes and then the recipes began!
Wilson didn't just pull these off the Internet, every recipe had specialized tips for making the most of that particular cake. Another reviewer stated that each recipe was 'drool-worthy ' -- and I couldn't agree more.
This is not just a recipe book, it is an instruction manual that shows you step-by-step what you need to do, what utensils to use, sizes, shapes, you name it. Nancy also alerts you to the mistakes you could be making and overcomes them before the damage is done and you hit despair, if you know how that feels.
The sheer variety of cakes offered makes this an indispensable addition to your collection of recipes as it is guaranteed to satisfy and delight any taste buds.
It helps that the book is beautifully presented and the recipes easy to follow.
A very well thought out cookbook, with a great selection of cakes for all occasions. I particularly liked the attention to detail and the way the author pointed out which recipes were appropriate for teaching children. My grandmother was a terrific baker, and I haven't seen some of these recipes since I was a kid in the 1950's. Kudos to Nancy Wilson for getting me baking again.
