Undone Karin Slaughter 9780385341967 Books

I didn't think Ms. Slaughter could pull it off, continuing after the death of Jeffrey, her husband and love of her life. Don't get me wrong, this is not a love story, but a carefully well written book continuing the series with just Sara Linton and the addition of Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. But I am glad to say that Ms. Slaughter struck a home run with the series. Nicely blended storyline of the three main characters and the pace is quick and makes you hold on till the end. The characters background are carefully revealed throughout the book, making you want to know more and more.

I didn't think I could ever forgive Ms Slaughter for the demise of Jeffrey, much less moving Sara to Atlanta to start a new life, but WOW, she did it!!

I highly recommend this book to others, but suggest you read the series from the beginning. The characters will become like family to you!

Undone A Novel (The Will Trent Series Book 3)
MY REVIEW 5 STARS*****
This book is the third installment of the Will Trent Series, written in 2009. The character of Will Trent was introduced in Slaughter's 2006 standalone masterpiece TRIPTYCH. The New York Times Bestseller FRACTURED (2008) continued the tale of troubled GBI Special Agent Will Trent, and the loner is assigned a partner in Atlanta Homicide Detective Faith Mitchell.

Karin Slaughter's Grant County Series was well established and enjoyed a dedicated following at this time. Slaughter has disclosed in interviews that she had decided to creatively blend the two series. In my opinion this made it possible for an excited audience of readers to learn how Will Trent would interact and navigate the twists and turns that were integral to the Grant County universe.

I studied the sequence and the timelines of the two successful series spawned by Slaughter's imaginative genius. Book 6 of the Grant County Series (2007) followed the launch of Slaughter's shooting star Will Grant in the literary classic TRIPTYCH (2006). However, following TRIPTYCH the focus shifts---not so much to the fictional character of Will Trent---but as I understood Slaughter to say---by this point---Will Trent IS the story.

Thus, UNDONE is really special because it is THE BOOK that introduces Will Trent to a (still) grieving Sara Linton (working in Grady Hospital Level One trauma center in a mind-numbing pace to block out much conscious thought). The backdrop of the story remains in Atlanta, the destination that Sara chose to run away from her heartbreak.

What do I love about the book UNDONE? The Prologue was simply a masterful touch...FROM a master. The story line is creative, thought-provoking, and riddled with such dark subject matter that I believe very few authors could have tackled it in such an articulate, yet circumspect manner. Moreover, this book has nail-biting suspense, a relentless pace, and a riveting plot. The author delivers a chilling almost palpable sense of "tick, tock" the clock is running out. There is a daunting mystery at the heart of this complex tale of unfathomable evil. I found myself revisiting the suspects, trying to solve the puzzle. It is not at all surprising that this novel marched right up the ladder to a position of authority with a designation as a New York Times Best Selling Novel.

Chapter Six is where the reader learns where the author chose the title of the novel. The descriptive term "Undone" as the story unfolds, is an old colloquialism. Figuratively, it means that a person has pretty much fallen to pieces. Significantly, Sara does NOT embrace it figuratively, but rather literally---[The phrase fit Sara so completely that she found herself surrendering to it, imagining her arms, her legs, detaching from her body. What did it matter?"] Why is this insight important? It so brilliantly defines the dark place that Sara still inhabits. She has erected a shrine for Jeffrey, an imaginary mountain of greatness upon which stands a statue of physical perfection, a bar set so high that no mortal man could cast his eyes upon, alone match.
Undone is the third book in the Will Trent series.

Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell are part of the GBI. When the book begins, Faith had passed out and she has been taken to the ER. Here is where Will will meet Sara Linton for the first time.

Sara Linton was the main protagonist from Karin Slaughter's Grant series. She's a pediatrician as well as a coroner back in Grant County. In Undone, she has moved to Atlanta and is working as an ER doc. Something horrible happened to her 3 1/2 years ago and she needed a change of scenery. She's still healing.

“And now, when she looked in the mirror and saw a new line on her own face,a new wrinkle, all she could think was that she was growing old without him”

At the same time that Faith is in the ER, a woman is brought in. She was hit by a car but a lot more has happened to her before the car accident. What she has suffered turns her into a GBI investigation. A serial killer is on the loose and Will, Faith, and Sara will all be involved in the investigation.

Another amazing book in the Will Trent series. It has become one of my favorite series. The character development is extensive and thoughtful.

My thoughts on the main players

Will---> So damaged. His past has marked him and despite being a smart man he has many vulnerabilities. One his wife loves to exploit.

“Who’s Sara?”
“Sara Linton,” Faith said. He shrugged, and she studied him carefully. Will never forgot names. He never forgot anything. “The doctor from yesterday?”
“Is that her name?”
Faith resisted a “Come on.”
He asked, “How would she know how long Anna was kept?”
“She used to be a coroner in some county way down south.”
Will’s eyebrows went up. He slowed to look at another sign. “A coroner? That’s weird.”
He was one to talk. “She was a coroner and a pediatrician.”
Will mumbled as he tried to make out the sign. “I took her for a dancer.”
“Woodland,” Faith read. “A dancer? She’s twenty feet tall.”
“Dancers can be tall.”

Faith --> I like her but gosh she can be mean! Luckily it didn't last. She's starting to trust Will and their relationship is more like siblings.

“I am just an awful, awful person, Sara. I can’t believe I said that to you.”

Sara--> I loved Sara from the moment I first started reading the Grant series. She's awesome and she was great in Undone too. She deserves happiness and I hope she achieves it with Will at some point.

Amanda Wagner--> She's tough on Will and also with Faith but I do think she protects them and cares for them.

Angie--> Not my favorite character. She uses Will and she doesn't care about his feelings. She had a tough past as well but this doesn't give her a free pass to hurt Will constantly.

Betty- Will's dog. Love her.

“Sara studied him. "Is that a Chihuahua behind your back?""No, I'm just happy to see you"Sara gave him a confused smile, and he reluctantly showed her Betty.”

Going forward with Broken.

Cliffhanger No

5/5 Fangs
